Hi Everyone,
NOAGE (New Orleans Advocates for GLBT Elders) is looking for a New Orleans LANP member to attend an event on Thursday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m. They will be hosting the launch of the Greater New Orleans LGBT Elders Provider Network at the AARP Community Resource Center (3502 S. Carrollton Ave).
The mission of NOAGE is to ensure that LGBT older adults get culturally competent care from their providers. Survey after survey has shown that LGBT elders fear being open with their providers for fear of mistreatment, and one of the results of is that they have poorer mental and physical health than their peers. Surveys of providers have shown that many are uncomfortable providing care for LGBT people. NOAGE would like to work with local providers to ensure that LGBT elders in the Greater New Orleans Area have the opportunity to live the healthiest lives possible.
