Greater New Orleans Region

*** HB 495 update****

Posted about 4 years ago by Jolie Montreuil

Fellow NP's of the Greater New Orleans region,

Today HB 495 was ammended and debated in the Louisiana Senate Health and Welfare committee. As of today ammendments include changing of the wording  "collaborative Practice agreement" to a mentorship agreement. After completion of NP schooling, certification and licensure, you will need to complete 4000 hours of practice with a mentorship agreement before your transition to independent practice. Your mentor may be a MD, Dentist or an experienced practicing NP. We as APRN's will continue to be governed, licensed and sanctioned by the LSBN. There will be a joint committee that reviews sanctions and return to practice and education needs that will consist of 3 NP's and 3 MD's.

This is just a brief summary of the ammendments, I will send a more formal explantion as more information comes available.

These changes were accepted and after debate the Senate H & W committee voted 4 yes/ 3 no to pass the bill out of committee and to the Senate floor.

I beg and plead with you to continue to send your emails in support of  HB 495 to our region's senators.

If any of you have a personal connection with a senator, please reach out as we would love to meet them face to face.

Please feel free to email or message me for any information or clarification,

Jolie
