GNO region update

Hello Amazing NP's of the Greater New Orleans region of LANP!

I hope you all are doing well! I hope you are partaking in self care as we are suddenly back in the mess of COVID surge #4. 

Health Policy:

It has been a while since I have sent a region update, I am sorry for that, but I needed a break after all the Health Policy and political events that happened this spring. That fight has not died and I ask that you continue to reach out to your legislators. If you have a connection or " an in" with a legislator please share with myself, and I can pass on to the Health Policy that will help us set up a meeting. If you want to set up a meeting with your legislator let us know, we can facillitate setting it up and join you with resources and information.

Please know that we WILL be bringing FPA back to legislation in 2022!

Annual Conference:

Dates are September 23(workshop day), 24-26. The in-person conference is in Alexandria, LA and the presentations will focus mostly on primary care needs, the on demand portion will include the specialty areas of Peds, Women's Health and Mental Health. You can regsiter for full conference or just on demand. The 3 hour Opiod course on Sunday will satisfy both the state and your certifying board's requierments to maintain you Controlled Substance prescriptive authority.

There will be a Silent Auction, Raffles and Wine pulls. There will also be many pharmaceutical, DME and Education vendors for you to visit.

Membership:

I apologize to those at the last in-person meeting, I miss spoke on our region numbers, my dyslexia and public speaking nerves got the best of me. Our region numbers are 356! 

Membership options include: Regular ($125 annually), Regular on auto renew ($120 annually);  Career Starter ( with in the 1st year of practice; $75 one time yearly membership at this level); Retired ($35 annually, may also subscribe to auto renew for a $5 discount); Student ( must be in good standings with your school, and NOT an already practicing NP going back for DNP; $50 annually while in school); Associate member ( CNS, CNMW, Nurse Educators, RN's, etc; $75 annually); Lifetime Membership ($2000; never pay dues again, get some sweet extra swag and recognition, beat inflation and future increase in dues; may be broken up into 3 payments if needed; GREAT graduation gift!!!!; equals 16 years of membership at the $125 price)

Veterans and Acive Military, be on the look out for a special Thank you discount coming in November!!!

GNO region will be doing a membership drive! My goal is to get our numbers to 450 by the end of the year. If we all get one non-member friend to join, this goal will be easy peasy to meet

Region Specifics:

We will be one of the featured regions in this quarter's news letter. I need to know who graduated this year ( shoot me a Facebook DM, a message here on ENP or shoot me an email). I need to know who published or won an award! Let's get the recognition we deserver for being the best region!!!!

Please help me welcome our Student Liaisons!!!! Ms Victoria Skinner, who is currently a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner student in the LSUHSC DNP program; and Ms Emmalena Tucker, who is a Family Nurse Practioner student working on her MSN at Loyola University.

Lastly MEETINGS....MEETINGS.....MEETINGS:

August: 5th (IBS, Linzess); 17th ( Fabry Disease); 31st (TEVA neuroscience TartiveDyskinesia)

September: 2nd( in the works); 15th ( CLL disease state)

October: 7th( UltraGenyx); 28th (DexCom and CGM); 3rd meeting in the works

Novemeber: 2nd( Pulm HTN); 4th ( Investment and retirement); 18th (in the works)

Please remember when registering, we have a large region as stated above and I am working hard to be sure all of you have an opportunity to attend 1 meeting a month. You may get on the waiting list of the others, but please only regsiter for one. 

ALSO!!!! We have had several members cancel at the last minute, leaving open spots at a dinner that still had members on the waiting list. This is unfair to your colleges and unfair to the rep who is hosting the dinners. PLEASE try to cancel before lunch the day of the meeting. If you must cancel later than that for unforseen events please send me a text so that I can try to get the seat filled.

NO SHOWS is not acceptable, please be cortious of your peers, our sponsor and your reps and let us know you can't come rather than no show. If this becomes a problem, those with no shows, will not be able to register for future events.
